Sod Calculator
Type the roll size your supplier prints, and the waste percent for your job. This page does not assume either one.
Result: sod
Enter an area greater than 0. A roll size is not assumed.
How Much Sod Do You Need?
Rolls = area × (1 + waste percent ÷ 100) ÷ square feet per roll
Sample entries, not recommended sizes: 1,000 square feet, a roll you type as 25 square feet, and 8 percent waste. That sample is 1,080 square feet after waste, and 43.2 rolls. Your supplier's roll will differ. An order that divides to exactly 1 roll is reported as 1 roll. An area of 0 is rejected.
A standard roll area and a default waste percent are not verified. Both fields start empty on purpose.
Sod Needed for Common Lawn Sizes
Same 1,000 square foot area. Only the roll and the waste change, and both are sample typing, not defaults.
| Sample roll | Sample waste | Rolls |
|---|---|---|
| 25 sq ft | 0 percent | 40 rolls |
| 25 sq ft | 8 percent | 43.2 rolls |
| 10 sq ft | 0 percent | 100 rolls |
The 10 square foot row is arithmetic so you can check the division. It is not a claim about how sod is sold.
Common Mistakes With the Sod Calculator
- Leaving a remembered roll size in your head and never typing it. The form will not guess.
- Adding waste twice, once in your head and again in the percent field.
- Reading 1 roll as 1 rolls. A result of exactly one uses the singular.
